the life of an Architecture Student

 QUOTES FROM ARCHISCHOOL PEOPLE:

 Tutor:
' Just remember to take some time to keep the good things in your life, like healthy eating and self time like a walk or run. Just get rid of facebook and your social life and its doable. And drink water.'

Lecturer:
'You should be at a level of perfection now. I expect you to do test prints of your 6xA1's to make sure the colours are correct and everything is fine.'
Reality: 1xA1 costs $20each. Therefore 6xA1's costs $120. Pay $120 for a 'test print'? Ha ha yeah i'll totally do that. Not.
 Workshop Manager:
*Has let any old nilly use the Laser Cutter for free since the dawn of time. Discovers the Laser Cutting Spindle is $5000 to re-align after a student bumps it. duh.
Annouces, 'All remaining students, no matter how much they use the laser cutter, must pay a $50 levy fee each semester.' Joy.
Design VS. Structure
Design tutor, 'The stacked theatres is a really strong point to your design.
Building Structures lecturer annouces to entire year, 'Dont even think about stacking the theatres. Even with a post-tensioned band beam or a 2metre beam, it can not support another theatre of 400 people and a stage on top.
*Goes home and spends 1 day in denial thinking- No, if i make this work structurally, my lecturer will be out-smarted and impressed. Realises its impossible because of height restrictions on the site as well. Spends 3 days re-designing the whole thing.
One of my lecturers who loves to send emails to us to freak us out more:

Tutor's think we enjoy big projects:
Tutor, 'Your about to graduate so you should be excited. And once you do, you probably wont get a project as big and exciting as this for many years so you should have fun doing this. And even if you do get to work on a project like this it wont be you designing it, you'll be part of a team."
What i heard, 'Its almost over. Hang in there and you will never have to go through the hell of such a big project for many years and even if you do have to, you'll have lots of people to do the work for you'.

If your new to the ArchiWorld here's
THINGS YOU WILL LEARN:
(And the sooner you learn them the better)

Compare yourself and discuss things with others. Always. Otherwise you wont learn that there is that height restriction that you miss read or that the standard for work is crazy and you will soon become familiar with turning up to presentations and seeing that you work is crap compared to everyone else and they all think of you as not even a contender.

A summary by another fellow archi student:

Accept this:

 Take this seriously.
Everyone else will be sleep deprived so if your not,
your clearly not as dedicated.

 Its normal.

They are not going to say,
'ok, we're just going to ease you into work this semester.'
Estupidos.

Group work will be your career when you graduate, so dont complain.

Also, read the advice in this blog. and this blog.

Also read this one is you want to stay like a normal person while studying architecture.

Now, if you are a fellow architecture student, here's
