The Pause

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone who just talks sooooo ridiculously much that you just don't interrupt? And you walk away having said nothing and they think they have had a genuine conversation with you? If no, then you are obviously the ultimate talker and need to just shut up sometimes.  Why is it that with some people we just can't be bothered and just don't say anything.

I have a theory that is quite simple to explain why these things occur.
But of course this is just my unresolved theory so if you read it and think 'this chick is whack' then let me know. On here. Facebook. Twitter. Whatever.

Everyone has a different pause time between conversing with others. From the moment you comment on the bad dye job of a girl standing in your carrage on the train, to the amount of milliseconds it takes your best friend to respond and comment further or just burst out laughing. At which point you both look away as not arouse suspicion of your bitchy observations. When you ask someone a question and they take just a little bit to long to answer you then you start to feel awkward and are about to repeat the question when they respond, that person, has a different pause time to you. Or discussing philoshies on life with someone you just met at a party and the whole conversation you've felt awkward because the pace feels slower, that person has a longer pause time than you.

And if you are a social panicker and think every silence is awkward silence then you are one of those people as soon as your comfortable pause times up and that person with a longer pause time will just think that they are interrupting if they jump into a shorter pause time than what they are use too. And they will probably walk away thinking you talk a lot. And you'll walk away thinking they're shy or boring or just had nothing to say.

Pause times can depend what kind of conversation. Whity humour is more funny with small pause times and quick reactions. Deep and meaningfuls, long pause times. But often your pause time is directly influenced from the people fyiu grew up with, your friends and family. So often whole friend groups will have different pause times to other friend group or different cultures or regions.

Analytical I know. Let me know if you agree or disagree or can further elaborate. I'll keep the awkward silence going until you respond ;)
